What is the Bavaria region like?
Bavaria is the southeastern region of Germany, with Munich ("Munchen" in German) being its largest city in the heart of the region.
Bavaria is very "German" in every sense... much of what Germany is known for is actually Bavarian. This region of Germany is rich in
forests & mountains, culture & tradition, history & architecture (spanning Roman ruins to Baroque fortresses to fairy-tale castles!),
& of course the breathtaking Alpine scenery, beer halls & colorful festivals, Bavaria offers much to the traveler, making it the most
popular region of Germany to visit. From the fairy-tale palaces & castles of King Ludwig & his heartbreaking history... to the
picturesque towns & region of the "Romantic road" & the passion play of Oberammergau in & around Rothenburg... to World
War II history & sites of Adolf Hitler the Nazi party... to the birth of beer brewing & the world-famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich... to
the beautiful valleys & towns surrounded by scenic, mountainous Alps... to beautiful rolling hills laden with vineyards/wineries &
old churches (of which Bavaria is mostly A) Catholic or B) Lutheran)... BAVARIA is a MUST-SEE in your lifetime, the destination
with the most gorgeous scenery in Europe! The Bavarian people are a hearty folk... they love their German food (kraut, sausages,
beer, wines) & generally enjoy a good time. Bavaria's capital city of Munich has much of what is mentioned above, from old to new... it's a
lively, modern city lined with trees & wide boulevards, & it offers everything in the way of shopping, dining, theaters & nightlife.
In Munich as well as father afield, there is SO MUCH INCREDIBLE HISTORY & so many SIGHTS to see... it will be absolutely riveting!
Highlights of Bavaria (Munich & area) in Germany:
(These are highlights that are
your choice to visit in Germany— this is
an “independent” trip, so you can see what you want to see!)
In & around MUNICH: Neuschwanstein Castle (built by King Ludwig II, castle of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' fame!), Linderhof Palace
(beautiful palace & grounds), Herrenchiemsee Palace (also by Ludwig, Bavaria's magnificent "New Versailles" palace), Residenz Palace
(royal palace/art gallery/museum in Munich), Hofbrauhaus (birthplace of the brewery, frequented by both Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart &
Adolf Hitler!), Nymphenburg Palace (one of Europe's most beautiful palaces with gorgeous interiors & immaculate gardens), ancient town
of Rothenburg & the Romantic Road, Oberammergau (where the Passion Play takes place), Berchtesgaden National Park (where
the Eagle's Nest is, Hitler's lair & favorite mountaintop vacation spot), Heidelberg Castle (from Gothic to Renaissance period, most
magnificent ancient castle ruins in Germany, houses world's largest wine vat in castle cellar!), Dachau World War II Nazi concentration
camp (grounds, buildings & memorial), Marienplatz (shopping/dining/nightlife city center), Franconian wine region (with tastings
available!), Alte Pinakothek (one of world's most famous art museums of Renaissance masterpieces), Deutsches Museum (largest
museum of science & history in the world), & a long list of other amazing castles & palaces in the area. Unforgettable!

What is Switzerland like?
Switzerland is a jewel of a country, whatever the region & city/town you are. From mountains to valleys, glacier-formed lakes to
actual glaciers, pastureland to city life, world-class skiing to world-class shopping to world-class banking & finance, Switzerland
can be described on a scale from "quaint" to "spectacular"! In Zurich itself, the city is nestled next to beautiful Lake Zurich &
surrounded by mountains, so it is an idyllic, scenic place no matter which direction you turn... there are little clockfaces & clock
towers & church steeples everywhere... houses with windows framed with lace curtains & windowboxes full of flowers... it's so manicured, clean & picture-perfect, you'd almost swear that DISNEY made it!
Switzerland is a mixture of many cultures... Austro-Germanic in the east & north, French in the west, Italian in the south...
Switzerland is diverse in both culture, peoples, cuisine, even language! (Did you know that Switzerland has FOUR "national"
languages? 1) German... 2) French... (3) Italian... & 4) Romansch, an old Roman/Latin dialect/language unique to Switzerland!).
Switzerland is the heart of Europe both geographically, politically, & financially. The Swiss cuisine is a mixture of surrounding
cultures as well, making Swiss food & drink its own special blend. From wines to beers, cheeses to meats, breads to pastries, it all
has a uniquely Swiss twist to it! (And they are world-famous for their fondue!!). Switzerland is an independent country politically
(they are very proud of their neutrality in all things political) as well as financially (they retain the Swiss franc & are NOT on the Euro dollar),
& they have been world-renowned for over a century for their banking & finance system. Switzerland's people are reserved but warm,
known for their hospitality, politeness & kindness, & are a generally laid-back (neutral!) kind of folk. Because of its mixed geography &
mixed cultures, Switzerland has many facets & faces to it... it's a must-see in your lifetime, an incredibly beautiful & diverse
country, & thus an ever-enchanting place!
Highlights of Zurich & area In Switzerland:

Zurich with shops, restaurants & nightlife), tour to Mt. Pilatus (gondola & cable car up, then steepest cogwheel railway in world
down to Alpnachstad), cruise Lake Lucerne to the picturesque town of Lucerne & join in yodeling, horn-blowing & flag-throwing
