About the resort:
The Occidental Grand Papagayo is a luxury all-inclusive tropical resort set in the breathtaking natural beauty of Costa Rica's Northern Pacific Coast, where lush tropical forests and volcanic cliffs descend into sand beaches and crystalline coves. The Occidental Grand Papagayo is located on Papagayo Bay, just 30 minutes from the airport, located in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica. The unspoiled coastline here is home to wild parrots & many exotic birds, monkeys and sea turtles right at the resort! Resort is very lushly landscaped with a variety of palms, colorful flowers, & exotic plants throughout the property. The resort "spills" down the hillside to an almost-black sand beach, tucked in a cove that has tidepools (explore the sea creatures here!) & monkeys & birds chatter in the trees near the beach AT the hotel!  # 1-- HOW TO SIGN UP  (payment schedule & policies):
Please call TIKI TRIPS, 214-999-1009, to sign up! Deposit is $250 per person by check or cash only, due at time of booking along with traveler's LEGAL FIRST & LAST NAME; final payment accepted by check, cash or major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover). Final payment is due on or before Monday, April 3rd. Space not held by deposit (& final payment when due) is subject to cancellation with no refunds given.  For credit card payments, we require a signed credit card authorization from the cardholder... please come by or call our office to request form. If mailing your check, please make your check payable to TIKI TRIPS & mail to address at bottom; be sure to include your LEGAL name & contact info with your check payment. Price is subject to availability & change until paid in full. Since this is a discounted group special, ALL PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE; PAYMENTS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE & NON-CHANGEABLE (a change is considered a cancellation). Travel insurance of $29 per person (covering medical/emergency cancellations only) is recommended but not included, due at time of deposit (details below). Names are not "due" until final payment (April 3rd), so if you need time to find a friend to go, that's not a problem! 
 
 # 2--Travel insurance & coverages:
You may purchase recommended travel insurance with your vacation package AT TIME OF DEPOSIT. Travel insurance is $29 per person. Travel insurance covers your trip cost if you have to cancel for a MEDICAL or EMERGENCY reason... "medical" defined as major unforeseen hospitalization or death in your immediate family or traveling companion's family; "emergency" is defined as fire, flood or tornado of your home (major catastrophic reasons). Travel insurance typically does NOT cover if you cannot go because you have a work conflict or changed your mind. It only covers for "medical" & "emergency" reasons (restrictions apply).  If you purchase travel insurance & cancel for covered reasons, then you will receive reimbursement for your trip cost (minus the insurance payment, of course). As always with insurance, restrictions apply; if you have further questions regarding the travel insurance, please contact our office for further information. Insurance also covers for certain baggage loss, extensive travel delays, & even certain medical coverages/evacuation while in Costa Rica, so it's an excellent idea to have. 
 
  # 3--Requirements for travel to Costa Rica :
Be advised: for travel to Costa Rica, you will be required to have a VALID U.S. PASSPORT (with at least 6 months' validity left... this means any passport expiring in 2006). NO birth certificates will be accepted... PASSPORT ONLY!! There are no immunizations or visas required of U.S. citizens for travel to Costa Rica for general tourism, so all you will need is your valid U.S. passport. (For NON-U.S. citizens, please check with your country's consulate as to what is required for entry/exit to & from Costa Rica). 
 
   MINORS TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
   In addition, minors (children under 18 on date of departure) traveling out of the country without both natural parents MUST also have a notarized affidavit of permission to travel without parent(s) from each absent parent or guardian. (Parent/guardian having full custody or parent with deceased spouse must have paperwork proving same).
 
  # 4--How to get a new passport (or renew an old one):
The main U.S. Post Office in Dallas on Interstate 30 (Sylvan Ave exit, first exit outside downtown Dallas heading west on way to Fort Worth) is a centrally-located passport office where you can apply for one in Dallas. You can also look in the BLUE pages in the front of your local business phone book to find out a closer passport office to you. To obtain a passport, you MUST APPLY IN PERSON; you will need: valid U.S. driver's license, a certified copy of your birth certificate (if born in the U.S.), a copy of your itinerary (we can email one to you) to prove your destination, 2 passport photos (you can have these taken at any Kinkos'... make sure it's a GOOD picture, that passport is good for TEN years!!), your checkbook, & at least $30 in cash. A new passport costs $97 total (part of this fee--$30-- may be required to be paid in cash, depending on the facility); renewal is $67. You will then fill out all necessary paperwork on site & "swear in". This passport will be mailed to you in approximately 4-to-6 weeks. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL 4-to-6 weeks before the trip to apply for your passport... summertime is PEAK travel season, so if you wait until the last minute, you will have to pay a big rush fee to get your passport. Apply for your passport NOW... it's not worth the risk. NO PASSPORT=NO TRIP!  For official travel requirements & further passport information, please visit the State Department's website at: http://travel.state.gov/   for the latest information & requirements.
 
  # 5--Tickets & documents for trip:
Your tickets/documents will arrive in Tiki Trips' offices approximately 14 days prior to departure... we will let you know as soon as they arrive so that we can arrange pick-up/delivery/mailing (see # 6: Pre-Trip Party" below for ticket pickup!)  There will be nothing sent out via email/U.S. mail/delivery to travelers until after final payment is made. 
 
  # 6--Pre-Trip Party (& ticket pick-up opportunity!):
As always, Tiki Trips hosts a pre-trip party for all our "Tiki Heads" travelers going on our trip! Date of the big Pre-Trip Party is always the Saturday night before the trip, this year being Sat., May 20th starting at 7 pm! (Location will be announced as we get closer). This party is an excellent opportunity to meet 'n mingle with fellow travelers, pick up your tickets, pick up your special "TIKI HEADS GO TO COSTA RICA!" T-shirt, ask any last-minute questions, & start getting excited about the big trip!
 
  # 7--Airport check in & travel requirements:
It's worth notifying everyone ahead of time: travelers are required to re-confirm flights 24 hours prior to departure directly with the airline in case of any last-minute schedule changes or delays. On the day of departure, travelers are required to check in at LEAST 2 hours prior to departure time at the airport for international flights with valid passport... failure to check in by this time (checking in late) may forfeit ALL your travel with no refunds or compensation given. Due to heavier FAA security measures & a lengthy check-in process at the airport, please arrive at the airport early, both on outbound & return flights, to allow ample time for the whole check-in process... if you check in late (no matter how good the reason), the airline will cancel your space & refuse boarding, & you will be left behind! They are tough... so BE EARLY!
