What is Jamaica like?

Jamaica is the quintessential Caribbean island, with architecture, culture & music that is all the unique colorful Caribbean style. Due to its rich history of pirates, plantations, former British rule & African influences, it is an eclectic mix of all, thereby making this destination a mighty fascinating one! Add to all of that some of the most beautiful beaches, mountains, lush countryside, rivers & waterfalls in the Caribbean, & Jamaica is IT! Or as the Jamaicans say, "YA, MON!"

We will be headed to Ocho Rios, a classic resort town & area on the north coast of Jamaica, almost 2 hours from the island's main airport in Montego Bay. Ocho Rios' beaches are some of the island's BEST, with our resort's beach at the RIU OCHO RIOS said to be the best in the whole area! Ocho Rios is an excellent area in which to be "based" because you have many of the island's highlights nearby... amazing rainforests, tropical gardens, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Caribbean, & in our opinion, THE highlight of Jamaica, Dunn's River Falls! (A very picturesque cascading/descending group of waterfalls where you hold hands on the walk up the falls!). Simply paradise. Other activities to do in the area: snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins, horseback riding, catamaran sail, sunset cruises, & many others (all at an extra cost). Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville" is THE happenin', hoppin' nightspot in town (complete with a pool & waterslide INSIDE!), so we'll be paying a visit there as well!

About the resort:

The Riu Ocho Rios Resort is a beautiful new 4-star all-inclusive resort on a breathtaking white sand beach in the Ocho Rios area, about 10 minutes from the town of Ocho Rios & its market, shopping & nightlife. The resort boasts 6 restaurants, 6 bars/lounges, 2 huge pools with rockin' swim-up bar, jacuzzis, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, tennis, ping pong, billiards/pool & sports bar, daytime activity program, dance lessons, nightly shows & entertainment, on-site disco, several bars & lounges, the works! The resort is a traditional design where the resort is built along the beach (no 10-15 minute hike to the beach, you are always right THERE!) so it makes getting to the beach very convenient, & you have a nice view no matter where you are at the resort!

Rooms: deluxe rooms are oceanview (farther away from the ocean, partially gardenview) or oceanfront (closer to the ocean, better view) or junior suite oceanview (larger, longer room with jacuzzi tub & a small sunken living area, located in the "quiet" wing), & all have a king or 2 double beds, balcony or patio, satellite TV, a/c, ceiling fan, hairdryer, radio/alarm clock, marble bathrooms, in-room safe, IN-ROOM MINIBAR with LIQUORS ON TAP! (really not kidding!) & MINIFRIDGE (stocked with beer, water & sodas). Also available on-site (at an extra cost): beauty salon & SPA services (with various treatments available).

Deposit is $250 per person by check or cash only, due at time of booking along with traveler's LEGAL FIRST & LAST NAME; final payment accepted by check, cash or major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover). Seats that are not held by deposit (& final payment when due) are subject to cancellation with no refunds given (we have deadlines we have to meet!). For credit card payments, we require a signed credit card authorization from the cardholder... please come by or call our office to request form. If mailing your check, please CALL US FIRST to make your reservation & then mail or drop by your check, made payable to TIKI TRIPS & mail to address at bottom; be sure to include LEGAL name of all travelers you are paying for, email address of all travelers, mailing address & 2 phone numbers along with your check payment. Price subject to availability & change until paid in full. Since this is a discounted group special, ALL PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE; PAYMENTS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE & NON-CHANGEABLE (a change is considered a cancellation). Travel insurance of $79 per person (covering medical/emergency cancellations only) is recommended but not included, DUE AT TIME OF DEPOSIT ONLY. (Ask your agent for more info).

ROOMMATES:

If you need a roommate, we can try & put you in touch with others who may be looking for a roommate, though for legal reasons we will not "assign" you a roommate. The person with whom you choose to share a room is strictly & only your decision. Be sure of your rooming decision before you make deposit. FYI, names are really not "due" until final payment time, so if you need time to find a friend to go, that's not a problem! If you are certain you can find a friend to go & just need a little time, we recommend that you make a double deposit (one for you, one for the friend you find to go with you) so that you can be certain you have the seat & room & price. At time of final payment, we can deduct both deposits you made from your final amount owed if needed, though each seat held by deposit is subject to the terms & conditions above. (In other words, since deposits are non-refundable for EACH seat held, don't make a deposit for a friend unless you are certain you can find one to go!)

BE ADVISED--YOU NEED A PASSPORT!

For U.S. citizens traveling to Jamaica, starting in 2007 you will be required to have a VALID U.S. PASSPORT with at least 6 months' validity & at least 1 blank inside page left; any passport expiring in 2007 or earlier needs to be renewed before departure. (Passports "unofficially" expire 6 months before they actually expire, so be SURE to check your passport's expiration date). NO birth certificates will be accepted... PASSPORT ONLY!! (For NON-U.S. citizens, please check with your country's consulate as to what is required for entry/exit to & from Jamaica). Minors traveling may require additional documents; please call our office for further info. Traveler is responsible for checking on his/her own travel documentation requirements needed for Jamaica prior to departure.

If you do not currently have a passport, you will not have to worry about this expiration issue, as new adult passports issued are good for 10 years (children's passports are good for 5 years). If you have any questions regarding obtaining a passport, please feel free to call our office or visit the State Department's website, http://travel.state.gov/ for the latest news on travel requirements & how to obtain a passport.
